Politics
With the election coming, this is the obligatory post about politics, but I'm not talking about individual candidates, or individual parties. I support candidates who leave science to the scientists, and leave the politicians out of it. I support candidates who believe who and how you marry is not the government's business. I support candidates who do not treat women as second class citizens. I support candidates who follow the clean campsite rule with our planet, and believe we should leave the Earth in better shape than we found it. I support honesty and integrity in our government. I support those who think progressive and liberal are not dirty words. Most of all, I support those who don't think intelligence and reason are things to be ashamed of. Fishing trip this Sunday
I went out fishing with my dad and one of his fishing buddies on Sunday. Despite (or perhaps because of) getting up way too early, we caught 4 chinook, each of which was at least 16 pounds, all before 1:30 PM. Pictures are below. We cut because we care. Writer's Block: Teenage dream
If you arrived at your front door and saw your first love standing there, what would you do or say?
Hmm, first crush or first love? My first crush, I'd be rather surprised and figure we have a lot of catching up to do, since I hadn't seen her in around 20 years. If my first love was waiting for me at my door, my first reaction would be to see if everything was OK, since it's not like I see her on a regular basis. | | Monday, October 18th, 2010 | | 6:16 pm |
Spirit Day
Originally posted by neo_prodigy at Spirit Day It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools. RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top) RIP Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle) RIP Asher Brown and Billy Lucas. Northern Lights Coronation 9/25
For those who may be interested, the Principality of the Northern Lights will be holding coronation at the Crossroads Community Center by Crossroads Mall this Saturday. Along with the regular fighting beginning at 1:00 which I will not be able to join in since I have to work that day, seating for the feast will begin at 4:00, and the feast and entertainment will begin at 4:30. Ceasar salad, minestrone soup, rolls, roast beef, au gratin potatoes, and cake will be served, all for $9 per person. I will be playing music for part of the entertainment. Medieval garb is encouraged, but certainly not required. | | Friday, May 14th, 2010 | | 10:54 pm |

To the Attorney General of Washington
I voted for you in the previous election despite the fact that I am a registered Democrat because I trusted you to represent the people of Washington and to help enforce the laws of this state. I believed that you would not let partisan politics interfere with this. In joining the lawsuit against the federal government, you have shown me that I was mistaken and that you will do whatever the most right wing portion of the Republican party wants. Unless you withdraw from this entirely inappropriate and frivolous waste of the Washington State taxpayers' money, you no longer will have my support for this or any other elected office. | | Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 | | 10:12 pm |
Birth Control and Churches
If I wasn't already convinced that organized religion was a bad idea, this would do it for me. The Catholic church decided to sever ties with a hospital in Grant's Pass, OR. Was it over abortion, or perhaps over removing feeding tubes from patients in vegetative states, or some other perhaps morally defensible issue? No, it was because the hospital performs tubal ligations. For God's sake (and I use the phrase deliberately), this is nothing more than the church attempting to assert dominion over someone else's body, in an even more drastic way than its stance on abortion. One would think that preventing unwanted pregnancies would itself be a moral imperative to the Catholic church, if nothing else because it ensures that one is not placed into the position of either having a child end up in the foster system or having an abortion, but once again they have proven that basic logic has no place in the church's positions. Fun this weekend, but sore today
Saturday we had the weaponmaster tournament for the Amtgard land I attend most frequently, Inland Ocean. I fought in single short sword, Florentine (one in each hand) short swords, and short sword and shield. I wanted to fight in open weapon as well, but they decided we were out of time to have an open weapon division, which is a shame because I was going to have fun with long sword and shield. The tournament was a Swiss style, which I'm still not sure exactly how it works other than everyone got 5 matches, each round against someone with a similar record. In single sword I was 3-2, in florentine I was 2-3, and in sword and shield I was 3-2. Not too bad, but I was a bit disappointed since I thought I could have done better in single and florentine. Sunday, I was intending to go visit aladriana, but that had to be rescheduled since she was ill so I decided to go visit the Amtgard land in Everett, Gypsy Hollow. There was a lot of regular ditch fighting and a short battle game, but the field was awfully muddy and slippery even though it wasn't actually raining. For the last 20 minutes or so I was fighting with a dagger and shield and later just a dagger for the amusement value. Unfortunately, I think sometime yesterday I twisted my back a bit, so I can't make it in to work today. I thought I stretched out enough, but apparently not. | | Friday, October 9th, 2009 | | 7:25 am |

Why R-71 needs to pass in Washington
Quite simply, crap like this happens at hospitals. The family of a dying lesbian was denied the right to see her in her last hours because the hospital said "We're anti-gay." The lawsuit was dismissed. Yes, this happened in Florida, but without legal protections, something like this could happen in any state. Token political statement
It is a sad state of affairs when a speech by the president urging children to stay in school is considered controversial. Education should be a bipartisan goal, especially when the speech will not be used to address any issues like teacher unions, charter schools, etc. I would find encouraging education commendable, even if G. W. Bush or Rush Limbaugh did it. That is all. Current Mood: frustrated | | Monday, August 3rd, 2009 | | 10:20 pm |

Nuisance credit agencies
I just received a call asking for someone named "Sabrina." Naturally, I informed the caller that there was no Sabrina here. I was then asked for a better number to reach her. So, something clicked in my head, and I checked some written notes I had from the last time a credit agency tried to call someone by that name. "As I informed Century Credit on November 24, 2008, this individual does not live here, I do not know her, and furthermore, I have been the only person at this phone number for approximately three years." I was then informed that the call was being monitored for quality purposes (suggesting that the individual thought I might be lying or something?) and that this was the contact number she gave. "Before you hang up, I require the name of your business so I can note that you have already been informed that she is not at this number." *click* I then tried to *69 to inform this business that I still required its name, but the number was blocked. Excuse me? Isn't a business obliged to give its name upon request? If nothing else, to ensure that they are not harassing someone who has nothing to do with the person they are attempting to contact? Annoying white stuff
As has been said elsejournal, #@%$!! snow! It's March in Seattle for (deity)'s sake! Fortunately, work is really slow right now and I'm scheduled to work this Saturday anyway, so around 12:30 or so I decided I had no real reason to be out anywhere. | | Friday, February 20th, 2009 | | 5:11 pm |
Apartment issues
OK, I admit I may not always be a perfect housekeeper, but my place isn't a complete disaster. Of course, when I called the management to fix a toilet which leaked upon flushing, I certainly did not have time to straighten things up beforehand, as I discovered the leak at 7:00 AM and needed to get to work.
